Poetry Ireland and Words Ireland are delighted to present an afternoon focusing on the practical side of being a poet. 

Join Don Paterson, award-winning Scottish poet and poetry editor for Picador, for a masterclass on the process of publishing poetry, from the drafting process to publication, and ways in which imagination can influence each stage of the process.

Poet Jane Clarke and Poetry Ireland’s Marketing Manager, Muireann Sheahan, will lead a session on marketing and self-promotion for poets. This session will look at ideas for managing your social media and online presence, as well as approaches to promotional copy, imagery, understanding PR timelines, and getting programmed at events and festivals. 

The seminar will also include a session on writing applications for grants with Paul Perry, poet, author and Artistic Director of the Ennis Bookclub Festivaland an opportunity to participate in Alexander Technique for Poets with Tomás HardimanBeing ‘desk bound’ can have an adverse impact on your posture and cause harmful tension in the body and mind. In this introductory session, Alexander Teacher Tomas Hardiman, who has spent a lifetime in the arts, shares his insights on how the Alexander Principles may be applied to a writing life. He will help you to observe the way you think and the way you move and to consider if there is a more efficient way of doing anything you do regularly.
