Intern Sought

Lorraine Brennan Management, a busy Talent and Literary Agency based in Harold’s Cross, Dublin, is seeking an intern. For over 20 years LBM has represented some of Ireland’s top talent of the stage and screen. Based in Harold’s Cross with over 120 clients, we work on a huge variety of project in Ireland, Europe and the US.

Typically the role will include: assisting with the day to day running of the office, answering phones and emails, coordinating auditions, recording, uploading and editing auditions, website maintenance, PA support to the managing director and other ad hoc duties as required.

The candidate must be computer literate, have a good telephone manner and be able to work on their own initiative. An interest in the entertainment industry is essential.

The internship is unpaid but expenses will be covered. It is possible that a full time position may be offered to the right candidate. This is a great opportunity for anyone seeking to gain experience and make connections in the entertainment industries.

The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award 2015

The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award for a first unpublished collection of poems in English is open to poets,  born in the island of Ireland, or of Irish nationality, or long term resident in Ireland.

The award is now in its 45th year. Previous winners include Eileán Ni Chuilleanáin, Paul Durcan, Thomas McCarthy, Peter Sirr, Sinead Morrissey, Conor O’Callaghan, Celia de Freine and Joseph Woods.

 

The winner of this year’s award will receive €1,000.

The Award will be presented on Friday 25th September at the opening of the Annual Patrick Kavanagh Weekend in Inniskeen.

New Roscommon Writing Award

The NEW ROSCOMMON WRITING AWARD 2015 is organised by the Roscommon Writer-in-Residence scheme, which is funded by Roscommon County Council and The Arts Council and supported by the Roscommon Herald, the Roscommon People and by Shannonside FM.

The winner will receive a monetary prize of €500 and will have their winning entry printed in the Roscommon Herald and the Roscommon People. It will also be broadcast on Shannonside FM.

Also: Four runners-up will receive €50 each

  • Entries, in English, on any theme, in any literary form, will be accepted.
  • The competition is open to anyone over 18. All entrants must have a connection with the county of Roscommon (born in, living in, currently working in, went to school in, etc).

Words Ireland Wicklow Mentorship Scheme

Wicklow Mentorship SchemeWe are  delighted to announce that the Words Ireland Wicklow Mentorship Scheme in association with Irish Writers Centre, Poetry Ireland, Children’s Books Ireland and Wicklow County Council is underway. This scheme is providing support for writers in or from the Wicklow area who are actively seeking feedback on their manuscripts.

The poetry mentor is Grace Wells (a member of Poetry Ireland’s critical assessment panel) and those being mentored are Caroline Bracken and Emer Fallon, who were selected through a competitive application process earlier this year.

Also involved are Philip St. John with Evelyn Conlon (novel), Sinead O’Loughlin with Micheal J. Farrell (short story)  and Justin McCarthy with Michelle Read (playscript).

Congratulations to all the mentees, we hope it is a very fruitful and productive experience.

Writer Residency Opportunity in Berlin

Literarisches Colloquium BerlinILE

Ireland Literature Exchange invites Irish fiction writers to apply for a one-month residency at Literarisches Colloquium Berlin. The Colloquium has been at the heart of the German literary scene for over fifty years, and now serves as an event forum, a workshop and an artist retreat for authors and translators.

Applicants must be of established reputation, have a minimum of two books published in translation (novels and/or short stories) and be available to take up residency at the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin for the month of October 2015.

Entries should include details of published works (in English/Irish and in translation) and a sample of a work in progress. Applications must be submitted by Monday 3 August 2015 to info@irelandliterature.com with ‘Residency in Berlin 2015’ in the subject line.

Ireland Literature Exchange is the national organisation for the promotion of Irish literature abroad. It awards literary translation grants to international publishers, hosts literary translators in Ireland, co-ordinates the participation of Irish authors at international event & festivals, and represents Ireland at the major world book fairs.

University of Limerick Writer’s Fellowship

The Arts Council University of Limerick Writer’s Fellowship 2016

Applications are invited from Irish writers of established reputation for the Arts Council University of Limerick Writer’s Fellowship which is co-funded by the University of Limerick and by a grant-aid from the Arts Council.

The Fellowship will be tenable either for the period January–June 2016, or, if it suits the Fellow, for the full calendar year January–December 2016. The Creative Writing programme at UL is led by Professor Joseph O’Connor, author of eight acclaimed novels including Star of the Sea and Ghost Light, and is taught by a number of award-winning writers, including novelist Professor Giles Foden.

The Fellow will be a part of UL’s Creative Writing community and will engage with students, staff and faculty in a number of ways. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to dev
elop her/his own work in a supportive environment. The stipend for the Fellowship is €20,000.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a covering letter outlining areas of interest, teaching experience (if any), ideas for engagement with UL’s Creative Writing programme, and a full CV to include the name and contact details of 3 referees to our Programme Coordinator for Creative Writing, Claire Ryan, Claire.ryan@ul.ie

Senior Poet Application Call

Poetry Mentorship

Words Ireland and the Munster Literature Centre will be running a significant mentoring opportunity for a Munster-resident poet.

  • A senior poet will be chosen to mentor a  poet with at least one collection published and no more than two. Over the course of a year the senior poet will guide the mentee in preparing their next book.
  • The process first involves selecting the senior poet.
  • After the senior poet is selected we will issue the call for applications by eligible poets wishing to be mentored.

 

Senior Poet Application Call
Applications are invited from poets with four or more collections published, to act as mentor to a published poet, not yet at mid-career, working towards their next collection.

  • You will be a poet recognised as critically acclaimed.
  • If appointed as mentor you will get to select the mentee-poet from applications submitted. You will then engage in six two-hour mentoring sessions over the course of twelve months beginning in October.
  • Mentoring sessions can take place at the Munster Literature Centre or at a location mutually agreeable to the Mentor & Mentee.
  • There is no travel allowance available. €2100 is budgeted for fees. Eligible applicants must be resident in Munster.

About the editor

Sean O’Reilly is the author of the short story collection, Curfew, and three novels, Love and SleepThe Swing of Things, and Watermark (recently reissued by the Stinging Fly Press). He teaches regularly in the Irish Writers Centre and leads the Stinging Fly fiction workshops.
